Throughout our quest for losing weight or recovering from an injury, we tend to think we are missing out on something. That something, we believe, is the one thing that will somehow accelerate the process or lead us exactly where we want to be. Sadly, many people will lose the focus and motivation necessary to finish what they started due to this distorted mindset.

With the mainstream media shoving false promises down our throats on a daily basis, it is easy to lose track of the essential components of any weight loss or rehabilitation program. How many times have you been scrolling through Facebook and, wouldn’t you know it, right there appears a fancy advertisement lauding exactly what you are looking for whether it be washboard abs or a pain-free back.

What we end up losing sight of is the tried and true methods that really work. Does anyone really think the answers to all your problems lie in one simple pill? How about that hip new workout style that guarantees results in little to no time at all? The truth is you cannot put all of your eggs into one basket, as they say. These misleading ads throw us off track and ultimately sabotage our progress.

Anytime you are promised a quick fix, I highly recommend you question the motives behind it. Early on in my physical therapy and personal training career, I thought my knowledge would be able to instantaneously bring results to my clients. It wasn’t long that this would prove to be an exhausting and fruitless expectation. Anything worthwhile in life is built over time, including your health.

No matter what you are searching for, know that there are many components that are necessary to help you find it. When it comes to getting into shape or coming back from injury, time and consistency are at the top of the list. And don’t forget about good nutrition, proper recovery, sensible training, and last but not least, the motivation to keep moving forward when things don’t go the way you want them to.

Yours in health,

Keith Pacific
